STEP and OMG Product Data Management Specifications
Eurostep is committed to using open standards for information sharing and exchange where appropriate to customers' needs. This approach definitely applies to the Product Data Management (PDM) area where Eurostep has participated in the harmonisation effort of PDM standards being developed by users and PDM system vendors alike.
The Object Management Group (OMG) has a task force that have developed the PDM enablers, a standard for PDM systems that wish to interface to each other in a distributed object orientated environment. Meanwhile the ISO 10303 suite of standards, STEP, provides a number standards for information exchange for many industries such as aerospace and automotive. As part of this ISO work industry consortia have created an information model for the exchange of PDM information, called the STEP PDM schema. Both of the OMG PDM enablers and the STEP PDM schema have some aspects that overlap and some aspects that are complimentary. The harmonisation work was able to better define and resolve the issues involved and you can read more about this in the harmonisation team discussion paper - STEP and OMG Product Data Management Specifications, A Guide for Decision Makers. A PDF-version of the document is available for download. The file size of the 43 page document - STEP and OMG Product Data Management Specifications - is 541kB. |
