The PLCS Project
The international Product Life Cycle Support consortia (PLCS Inc) consisted of leading international organizations and government departments. Eurostep personnel lead the development of PLCS and are uniquely qualified to present the information exchange standard for product support, ISO AP239 PLCS, and the continuing work in OASIS, which is reshaping IT integration across the p roduct support domain.

Course content
During this 3-day-course, the PLCS concept is explained. The background and an overview of PLCS is presented. The focus of the last two days is on an in-depth technical description of the information model and guidance for its implementation, which prepares the participants for exploiting and putting PLCS into effect. Topics include:
• Background and overview of the PLCS project
• The structure of a STEP (ISO 10303) standard
• Overview of AP239, content and architecture
• Overview of the AP239 activity model
• Walk-through of the AP239 information model
• Walk-through of AP239 Data Exchange (DEX)
• The role and use of PLCS Reference Data Libraries (RDL)
• The STEP module and DEX library repositories
• Early implementations of AP239, examples
• Implementation issues for exploiting PLCS

What you will learn from attending
The three-day Technical Walk-Through of PLCS gives the participant an understanding of why PLCS exists (scope), what information it is concerned with, and in general terms how it can beused. Use cases from implementations are presented, and you will get a feeling of what software support there is for PLCS. The second day is literally a walkthrough of the entire standard, and the third day is focused on how PLCS is used, including usage guidance and how to use the DEXes.

After this course, you will be certain of the power of the PLCS standard, and you would understand what you would have to do in your organization to use it, in terms of using PLCS-aware software, building adapters, raise people’s awareness of use of standards, etc. You will understand that reading the standard is very difficult but also unnecessary, since we have DEXlib, and you would know how to navigate DEXlib to find the DEXes and Templates you are interested in. You will also have an overview idea on how you could build your own business DEXs, or how you could use PLCS both internally and externally to your own organization.

Who should attend?
Everyone with an interest in PLCS is welcome, but the 3-day-course is especially recommended to people in a more technical role, e.g. those that will map internal systems to PLCS, programmers that will develop adapters, or modelers that will build their own DEXs, and for project managers for such projects.
