SAAB Kockums – PLM backbone

Situation

Saab Kockums, a Business Area within Saab, designs and manufactures military surface ships and submarines, products with long life times (up to 40 years). Saab Kockums has recognized a need to improve their information management and have a consistent, integrated systems landscape for the management of product data. With a goal to cut lead times in the order to delivery process by 50% for all new products, information on has to be treated as a primary asset.

Problem

Coming from an IT systems landscape that was designed for document output, Saab Kockums is facing a significant change in their overall IT systems architecture. Model based development, new production environments and new ways of working are introduced in parallel. Designers and engineers need to foster cross discipline collaboration and contribute to creating the best environment possible for the complete enterprise. This is a challenge as previously much work has been done “in isola on” with information in stove pipes.

Solution
