The design and manufacturing of a product typically involves collaboration and information sharing; externally across the extended enterprise with suppliers, partners, manufacturers, customers and internally across departments and disciplines.
There are many tools on the market allowing for information exchange and sharing but they are typically targeting basic scenarios such as sharing of documents with less rigorous security. For a collaboration tool to be delivering value in the domain of product and systems data it has to manage documents but also parts in bills of material. There are many more requirements like easy to use, through life, management of tasks, discussion boards etc.
This paper highlights some features in ShareAspace InReach and provides a check list to support the evaluation on a tool for PLM collaboration.
